When should I bring my wedding dress in for alterations?

Ideally, your first fitting should be 8–12 weeks before your wedding. This gives us enough time for fittings and adjustments without rushing the process.

How many fittings will I need?

Most gowns require 2–3 fittings, depending on the alterations needed and how much the gown needs to be adjusted.

Do I need to bring my wedding shoes?

Yes! Please bring the shoes and undergarments you plan to wear with your gown. They can make a significant difference in the fit and final hem length.

What if I haven't chosen my shoes yet?

That's okay for your initial consultation, but your final hem should be completed with the shoes you'll actually wear, or shoes with the same heel height.

Can you alter a dress that is several sizes too big?

Often, yes. Every gown is different, though. During your consultation, I'll look at the construction and determine what alterations are practical while maintaining the original design.

Can you let my dress out if it's too small?

Sometimes! It depends on how much seam allowance the gown has. Some dresses can be let out, while others may require additional fabric or a different alteration.

Can you work with lace, beading and sequins?

Yes! Detailed gowns are absolutely welcome. These alterations are priced individually based on the construction and amount of detail involved.

Can you bustle my train?

Absolutely. I'll determine the best bustle style for your gown based on its construction and train. We'll also make sure you know how to secure it before the big day.

What should I bring to my fitting?

Please bring your wedding shoes, intended undergarments, and any shapewear you plan to wear. If you have your veil or other accessories, you're welcome to bring those as well.

Do you offer rush alterations?

Rush appointments may be available depending on my schedule and the complexity of the alterations. Rush fees may apply.

How much will my alterations cost?

Every gown is different. Prices depend on the gown's construction, number of layers, lace, beading, sequins and the alterations needed. A final price will be provided after I see and assess the gown in person.

Do you require a deposit?

A 25% deposit of the total alteration cost, or the cost of materials (whichever is greater), is required to begin work. The balance is due at pickup.

Do you clean or preserve wedding dresses?

No. Seamworks specializes in alterations and fit. Cleaning and preservation should be handled by a professional gown preservation service.
